Newcomer Support Programs

Project Integration is an initiative to help new landed immigrants into Canada, regardless of cultural or religious background. Once the participants have completed the program will share Canadian values of social pride, human rights and respect for all people. The program addresses three key issues; Canadian heritage, multiculturalism and career mentoring through the following activities:
  • Job shadowing
  • Networking workshops
  • Cross cultural workshop
  • Sensitivity training
  • Canadian history workshop
  • Diversity training

HCS contributes volunteers, meeting and workshop space along with leveraging its ties within its community to recruit new landed immigrants. We have also partnered with established ties in Indian, Pakistan and Sri Lankan communities. With these ties we are able to easily identify and communicate with new Canadians, from various backgrounds, who would greatly benefit from this program.

Moreover HCS Project Integration bring new Canadians together through workshops andtraining sessions. This interaction allow participants to learn about each other and their backgrounds while at the same time learning about Canadian past and heritage. The final workshops tie in all the knowledge the participants have gained through out the program by having them make group presentation on how their uniqueness can contribute to future of Canada. This broad sense produce numerous venues where new Canadians of various backgrounds, non-for-profit and for-profit organizations, and local decision makers all be present at one location at the same time. Our project creates a unique opportunity for government organizations and government officials from all three levels of government to observe and interact with the participants and attendees.

The new immigrant being in new country wants to stay close to cultural roots.
There is usually a period of settlement for all new families and the places of worship tend to be an institution that has open doors to all and presents the opportunity for all to access these new members to the community. The families with young children are concerned about maintaining cultural traditions and see this HCS's programs as a means to achieving a necessary level of cultural content in their lives.

HCS long term goal is to make our project Canada wide and have every new Canadian take part. Our goal is to help each new Canadian settle down and start their new life as easily as possible. The ultimate goal is to provide participants with information which will help them in every day social and professional life. Once some of our program alumni become established members in their communities and in the corporate world they will act as ambassadors for the Project Welcome.
